There are many walking tours in areas and cities around the country that you would not know there is anything to see. Yet these tours are popular and are not highly organized with incoming groups because the average walking tour is ten or fifteen people. Have no personal experience on these so suggest you track these down in other areas and see how they are doing It.
How do they get sign ups. Just let me say it does work, I see them in US cities and overseas. They will often be one or two hours duration about half walking and half stop for talks-explanations of what you are seeing or gong by or are in. Tours were usually around $7 or $8 dollars and were interesting because you found out things you would never have known about local history on any other tour. Often these are downtown or old parts of town.
You will have to figure out how to make one in your area that works. If you can pick up say 10 people for an hour and a half "walking" tour, you make say $70 for your hour.
You advertise your other tourism day services etc and they get to know you and it all works together.
Very popular are walking tours where you lead a group walking through an interesting part of town etc. often even the locals do not know what’s there.
You will need to work this up yourself on what can be seen interesting in a 1 to 6 hour or so walking tour. In a National Park you would call it a Hiking tour.
You develop a good talking interesting background SPIEL and stop and talk and explain the story behind (OR history etc.) of what they are seeing.
There are surprising numbers of walking tours right down town.
Now, when you develop a way to find clients for your walking tour, you may pay others in the business a commission.
They sign up people for your tours and collect retail and pay you a wholesale Rate.
That’s the way you get others developing clients for you. You may get a large number of some days none another days and only one couple other days, Those days may pay you poorly but it is how you start and you were going to experience finding what works and developing a reputation of pirating an inexpensive interesting walking tour. Get a large number, you can make good money. Poor number, still make a living.
The Museum or National Park Guide etc.
You might advertise yourself as the Leading WHEATSLAMP National Parl Private Tour Guide or whatever you’re local Attraction is. Now, to become a great Tour Guide You will need to research what you’re guiding and become an expert on the area.
