I know a guy in the yard fence business in the Midwest. He has huge ads in the local phone book, now I understand he has both the in the state two major cities. Maybe he is even pulling this off in other Midwest states by now.
Puts his phone and ads on vacation until May 1 and goes south. Comes back for the summer and reactivates his phone and pays for his huge expensive phone book ads four or five months of the years, Has seasonal employees. Some regular back year after year, College students etc others have to pay for their phone book ads year around.
He does a big yard fence business, you see signs with his fence installations all over town, look in the phone book and you would conclude he is the largest and biggest fence company in town and then he goes south for the rest of the year, takes out his phone and stops needing to pay for the big ads.
He made more than enough money, in the summer, to last all winter first class.
Has no store, has a lot for storage.
Does the whole business with a phone, not sure where he has the phone but likely at an answering service that takes all his calls in season. He responds to phone inquiries and goes out and writes up estimates and usually gets the job.
Takes the rest of the year off and shuts off the off season overhead like a faucet.
