You need fairly soon, most will at least
Be coming to the point they need income from somewhere.
Any income
coming in to get you by and you need a source from self employment that has almost no possibility of making your finances worse if all does not go well.
It must have never the less, good possibilities of earning you enough to live on, with it only taking a few hours of your time so you still will have time to develop, can try out, test and develop long term possibilities large income business ventures self employed with large potential and possibilities over time.
As I write this I am in Turkey and want to share with you a couple of things some entrepreneurs were doing in Turkey that I had not seen anywhere else. Always impressed when individuals find a niche and make a buck filling it.
You always heard Europeans poo poo Americans liking and eating sweet corn, their repeatedly remarking corn was "animal feed".
All over Istanbul turkey on large foot traffic streets, (this will only work with elbow to elbow foot traffic and they have it every day in many streets,) we may have a few places in US with this large a foot traffic.
Art fairs, celebrations, special events were large foot traffic is in attendance this might work.
They have a little three wheeled cart with a two by two by two metal containers on one end with a propane tank fed burner under it apparently and boil sweet corn.
They then have a little charcoal burner up on top about a foot in diameter with charcoal and a little screen grill on top were they burn blacken or barbeque it with charcoal heat, They sell them for about a buck US, boiled with nothing on them, and a buck fifty off the charcoal extra treatment after boiling.
Looked to me like they were selling about ten to twenty an hour, and at close to a buck margin average, were doing a lot better than the average Turkey with wages that had a salaried job, saw maybe 100 corn sellers all together.
Also noticed a few similar with just the charcoal selling roast chestnuts, different numbers prepackaged with vary prices based on size of sack more for different quantity and I did not look into the cost of chestnuts and margins etc. There were ten sweet corn sellers for every chestnut seller. <>
Must have been more demand or margin on corn.
Then I noticed in the most crowded foot traffic areas, soap bubbles’ floating overhead which got everyone’s attentions and it was a guy with a shoulder bag of bubble maker pistols. He just pulled the trigger and it sent hundreds of great soap bubbles shooting overhead. Instant attention getter, no investment except shoulder bag and inventory.
Chinese made pistols netting packaged with a screw on bottle of bubble solution and he sold them for $3.00 should imagine if you bought them from the right level of supplier you should get them at $1.00. If sold 20 an hour at $2 profit, that’s $40 an hour.
All you have to do is to stand in the middle of foot traffic and pull the trigger and shoot soap bubbles in the air, No hollering pitch needed. If offered a spare bottle of bubbles in addition, you should be able to sell those here for $4 or better. Note that word AMMO – means ammunitions for your soap pistol, you might staple a business card says on it one for a present $5 postpaid with 1 extra soap solution included, then your website or phone number for them to order from. You might also offer to sell them in bulk as premiums etc.
Also I noticed at tourist attractions on rainy days numbers of people selling umbrellas for $5 and doing well. We found places to buy in past years in U.S. good Chinese made umbrellas for a dollar a pieces (close outs)
If you can go out on every rainy day at any event were people are going to be caught in the rain, sell 100 umbrellas in a day at $4 margin per umbrella you can have a $400 day every time it rains, so don’t knock these Turkey innovators, use them to spur your ideas. You need to know how to buy this stuff of course but you
can start and test this from any source. No need to do that until you test market your idea, proceed only if it works.
Remember, the umbrellas timing and location is everything. The business is based on filling a need that unexpectedly arises and is not being filled adequately with you for the umbrella business when it rains (look at tomorrow’s forecast) and large groups of tourist etc are paying to walk thru some outdoor tours of ruins etc. Then you might also consider or instead selling folded up thin plastic ponchos, since tourist came in pairs you might sell two for $3 or 2 for $ 5.00 you can likely buy these for 25¢ to 35¢. An 8½ x 11 plastic enclosed sheet Folded up (you wearing one as demo) Sell them 2 ponchos $3.00
If you have another business and on rainy days you cannot work making money, this sort of "umbrellas ponchos, rainy day is
What can turn a very rainy "down" day into a winner.
